Contributing towards a bright future for health around the world

All health and medical professionals that make a significant and sustained impact on Griffith’s research, teaching and/or services activities have full academic titles.

Academic titleholders can be awarded a title that is representative of their expertise and experience, as well as access to the extensive library of information technology and other benefits.

BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO ACADEMIC TITLEHOLDERS

Griffith University is proud to have as affiliate members academic titleholders. They are recognized for their contributions in research, teaching, and/or services.

Academic title holders:
– can use their academic status and affiliation with Griffith University in forums and correspondence, as per the Griffith University Code of Conduct.
You are eligible to apply for University business cards or Griffith photo identification cards
– Your details may be included on the webpage of your host element (School/Institute).
– could be able show information about their research projects to their host element’s site
Participation in School/Element seminars and meetings is possible for eligible students
– You are eligible to vote in the applicable elections and to be nominated to your School/Element Committee.
– Provide the opportunity for University employees to showcase their professional achievements through participation in newsletters, on-line media and other publications.

Access to the Library

Academic titleholders can access the University’s library resources. These include library borrowing rights as well as access to Griffiths complete online full-text journal collection.

Griffith University Library houses over 950,000 objects (almost 800,000. Unique titles) at seven locations.
The library collection contains over 900 databases, 125,000 electronic journal titles and 3000 printed journal titles. 300 of these are specifically for the medical and health sciences.
Academic titleholders have access to up to 40 items in any library.
Interlibrary Loan Service – This service allows staff to borrow materials from other libraries and universities that aren’t available in Griffith’s library.

Access to the internet, email and web portals for staff at Griffith University

Academic titleholders can access extensive information technology expertise and services.

– University internet and staff web portal accounts including passwords to access a wide range of infrastructure support services and resources (refer to: griffith.edu.au/information-services)
– University email account
– File storage space and central secure data backups on University servers. Also, access to University printers via network.
External dial-up access to University network

Professional development opportunities

Academic titleholders can access many opportunities for continuing professional growth, including seminars and courses that are delivered by.

The Office of Human Resource Management offers an annual program of courses that covers topics such as specific work functions and academic leadership skills. It also provides courses that promote personal growth and well-being.
Division of Information Services offers a variety of computing, academic and research skills topics through workshops, short courses and one-to-one support
– Learning Futures: Workshops, formal academic programs, and short courses designed to help you develop your skills in teaching, research, scholarship, and publication.
Schools and Research Institutes are a great way to network with other researchers across the University, further your knowledge, and attend regular seminars and presentations.

IT Support

Academic titleholders have the right to access the University’s Library. They also have access to IT support staff who can help with problems relating to University IT accounts.

Grant and award opportunities

Academic titleholders could be eligible for University awards, such as teaching awards, scholarships, and research grants.

Research support

The University’s Office for Research offers assistance for academic titleholders. It includes grant administration, online grant databases and grant writing. They also provide feedback on grant applications.

Legal Support

If contracts or agreements are necessary for University-related activities, the Legal Services Unit can assist academic titleholders.

Support for the commercialisation of intellectual property

Griffith Enterprise can assist academic titleholders with developing commercialization opportunities for intellectual property.

Coverage for insurance

Acting for the University Academic titleholders, they are covered under the terms and conditions by the University’s Medical Malpractice Insurance.

RESPONSIBILITIES – ACADEMIC TILEHOLDERS

1. Participation as a student teacher
– Supervision for students in placements.
Facilitating student group learning (including problem-based learning); and/or
Conducting tutorials and lectures;
Participating in Student Assessment and Other Academic Activities of their School/Institute.
2. Participating as a researcher, and/or contributing to research projects that are collaborative with other researchers from the University.
3. The University may administer research grants where it deems appropriate.
4. Recognize the University in the Bylines of Publications, if appropriate.
5. Participation at relevant committee meetings
6. Compliance with all applicable legislation, rules, orders, and codes of conduct that affect the University.
7. Academic titleholders report to their academic manager.
